Despite the supposed end of the Cold War, Russia and China continue to secretly plan for a Red Dawn scenario for the United States. This would consequently result in the extinguishing of free enterprise, political freedoms, social justice, and basic human rights in our country. What would a Russian/Chinese invasion of the US look like? Based on my research for two decades, the Russian and Chinese leadership are not crazy or irrational. Instead, they are psychopathic chess players who make their decisions based on calculated risks. Ultimately, they are dedicated to a global hegemony at the expense of the US. If the Russians and Chinese perceive that the US is weakening or breaks apart in a civil war, troops may be flown into the US ostensibly to “restore order” and prevent “militarists” and “neocons” from seizing nuclear weapons and starting a global war. Perhaps the Russians and Chinese may face a major crisis and embark on an ambitious gamble to take down the US, thus potentially intimidating the rest of the world’s governments and cowing their restless domestic populations. Another possibility is the Chinese Communist Party and Russian “nationalist” leaders deciding that it was their turn to overthrow America through a military invasion, even without any provocations from the US. We must reasonably assume that Russia and China coordinate efforts to concoct plans to attack and occupy the US. This is a continuation of the invasion and occupation plans compiled by the old Soviet Union. An attack would more than likely involve a selective, decapitation strike by Russian/Chinese SLBMs and ICBMs on command and control centers (e.g. Washington DC), key SAC bases, and remaining concentrations of heavy industry (steel, chemicals, electronics, and oil). The steel mills in Gary Indiana, the concentrations of oil refineries and chemical plants along the Houston Ship Canal (Texas), oil refinery clusters along the Mississippi River south of Baton Rouge Louisiana, Silicon Valley California, and Los Alamos New Mexico come to mind as primary industrial targets. Population centers would be ignored (unless they contain concentrations of heavy industries or key military bases). Naval bases and shipbuilding facilities located in Newport News Virginia, Groton Connecticut, and Bath Maine would be probable targets. After the selective strike, any remaining American military forces would (mostly) surrender) and a new Russian/Chinese-backed coalition government would be established in another city unaffected by a nuclear strike. A war-weary population craving a return to normalcy would albeit reluctantly accept such a government promising stability and the restoration of basic services (electricity, water, medical care, and food supply). This new government would attempt to win over the general population through the promotion of “social justice” and efforts to crack down on “corruption” and “greed.” Present day economic, political, and social conditions in America would lend credence to John Price, who argued back in 1979, “Skeptics might doubt whether a nation as large as ours could ever be occupied; but America in a financial crisis, beset by disorder, weak in spirit, and unsure of itself would be an ideal captive state. We would then be willing to believe anything. We might even long for the imposition of order, which occupation would bring. With our sophisticated television system, well-trained Communists could soon be wooing us, coast to coast, with explanations as to how capitalism failed us and how we are joining with the rest of the world in united Marxist living. From a practical viewpoint a weakened America could be occupied with relatively few troops. Only 200 checkpoints on our interstate highway system would control long range travel. Only 14,000 grocery stores supply 70 percent of our food, so 28,000 armed Russian troops could well control that aspect of life. Thoughts like this might make us ill but we can be assured that the Soviet military already has numerous studies and plans on just such a military occupation of America.”[1] Other Americans of many political stripes would resist, thus tying up occupation forces and their American collaborators. In order to crush political opposition, Russia, China, and their American allies would deploy extreme brutality to crush such opposition. Under pressure from Russia and China, the US may be fractured into different countries in order to dissolve us as a nation. This would be clearly an attempt to psychologically wipe out the very concept of the United States as country, especially for future generations raised under Russian/Chinese dominance. Or the Russians and Chinese may seek to deploy biological weapons (instead of nuclear weapons) to exterminate the American population, thus eliminating all potential resistance and allowing Moscow and Beijing to resettle their nationals on our territory. In either scenario, American industries and farms would be harnessed for the rebuilding of the Russian and Chinese economies. American workers and professionals would be kept working long hours for potentially lower wages and in poor conditions (with speed ups and controlled unions) to rebuild the US and distract our population from resisting. Work-life balance (which has been declining since the advent of neoliberal market fundamentalism) would be extinguished.
Now let’s review the evidence. After defecting in 1992, GRU Colonel Stanislav Lunev warned how the Russian General Staff revised the old Soviet war plan against the United States. Per an agreement with Communist China, Beijing was tasked with the invasion of the lower 48 states, while Alaska would be annexed by the Russians. According to Lunev, ICBMs from the Russian Strategic Rocket Forces would decimate our Command and Control centers and major strategic assets (ICBM silos, naval bases, Strategic Air Command facilities, etc.). Various Third World nations (presumably anti-US allies of Russia and China) would be invited in for what the Russian war planners referred to as “looting rights.”[2] Another source corroborated Colonel Lunev’s revelations. In a secret speech to the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China (CCP), People’s Liberation Army (PLA) General Chi Haotian stated: “Over these years, according to Comrade Xiaoping’s arrangement, a large piece of our territory in the North has been given up to Russia; do you really think our Party Central Committee is a fool?”[3] When General Chi mentioned the “territory in the North,” he was referring to the US. In a visit to China, Clark Bowers, the head of a (US) Republican Party delegation, asked Mo Xiusong (who was the Vice Chairman of the CCP) the following question: “Is the long-term aim of the Chinese Communist Party still world Communism?” Mo then replied to Bowers: “Yes, of course. That is the reason we exist.”[4] While filming a Chinese Naval maneuver, a BBC crew interviewed PLA sailors who claimed that they were “practicing for the invasion of America.”[5] In the secret speech referred to previously, General Chi remarked that China planned to use biological weapons to wipe out the American population. China then planned to dispatch their own nationals and troops to occupy the territory of the former United States. Referring to themselves as “revolutionary humanitarians,” the CCP admitted that their genocide of the American population would result in the death of 100 to 200 million US citizens.[6] In a February 2008 meeting of the CCP Politburo and Central Military Commission, Party leader Hu Jintao laid out China’s long-term strategy for the West in a confidential speech: “…We Chinese communists must shoulder the great historical mission, and use socialism to defeat capitalism, eventually liberating the entire humanity with Communism.”[7] In 2021, the editorial board of the Chinese state-owned Global Times ominously predicted, “The US will definitely see the PLA show up at its doorstep in the not-too-distant future…The two sides’ warships and aircraft on the seas will carry huge mutual strategic hostility, and the two countries will not yield to each other…Once the situation gets out of control and triggers military clash between China and the US, we must give full play to our home field advantage. China will definitely win once there is a war.”[8] Long Kaifeng, a retired PLA military officer and strategist, argued that the world was in the midst of what he termed “The Fourth World War” where the US and its allies would be defeated while Russia and China would gain power. Long Kaifeng stated that China was not afraid of a war with the US, since it had a solid infrastructure and strong industrial base. Long believed that “American imperialism” would surrender once the human casualties pile up.[9]
The next question would be: who would collaborate with the invading Chinese and Russian forces? While resistance would be rife in a war-torn, occupied United States, collaborators would appear out of the woodwork. How many Americans would collaborate with Russia & China is an open question since there are no solid polls or studies taken regarding this very question. Some polls provided a few hints though. According to a Des Moines Register poll from 1987, thirty five percent said they would rather live under communism than die.[10] In 1971, National Review sponsored a poll of youth on twelve American college campuses. Fifty four percent of those students chose to surrender to the Soviet Union over fighting a world war with them.[11] Many of those polled were sincerely afraid of death and sought to survive at all costs. That is perfectly understandable. Others may have viewed surrender as a means of salvaging the US or establishing peace. However, a portion of those polled were possibly communist ideologues seeking the downfall of the US. More recently, polls revealed the levels of sympathies for Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping amongst the American population. According to this poll, those on the political left displayed more favorable views of China than those on the right. Sixteen percent of Americans (out of 44,166 surveyed) had a positive view of China. While that does not constitute a majority of Americans, it still represented 2,266 people. Nine percent of Americans (out of 44,166 surveyed) were confident that Xi Jinping was acting correctly in international affairs. Again, not a majority but not a statistic that one can brush off. Nine percent represents 1,274 people. Twelve percent either didn’t know or refused to answer the question.[12] A portion of the twelve percent polled were possibly secret communists or socialists who were unwilling (for tactical reasons) to reveal their political identities. A portion of the 2,266 and 1,274 Americans who were polled could potentially serve as collaborators with a Chinese invasion and occupation of the US. Why? Because they are sympathizers with China and not American interests. We can also deduce the potential number of ideological collaborators from the membership totals of existing communist parties in the US. Yes, a portion of disillusioned communists would defect from their parties and fight the invaders as newfound patriots. However, many would side with Russia and China on the account of an intense anti-Americanism and alienation. Historian and Special Assistant to President John F. Kennedy, Arthur Schlesinger described this attraction to totalitarian parties and governments: “Free society alienates the lonely and uprooted masses; while totalitarianism, building on their frustrations and cravings, provides a structure of belief, men to worship and men to hate and rites which guarantee salvation.”[13] Ideology and alienation provides the toxic mix which threatens representative republics and democracies alike. How many open communists exist. According to various figures, the total number of members of seven communist parties in the US totaled approximately 8,540 people. (The organizations represented in this count include the Center for Political Innovation, the Communist Party USA, the Workers World Party, the Freedom Road Socialist Organization, the Committees for Correspondence, the Party of Socialism and Liberation, and the Party of Communists USA).[14] While this figure is not reflective of a numerical majority, the core cadre exists for the development of a postwar collaborationist movement. Even in anti-communist Florida, the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) has 1,821 registered voters.[15] During the Miami mayoral election of 2017, the Socialist Workers Party candidate Cynthia Mason Jaquith garnered 1,393 votes.[16] A miniscule amount to be sure, but enough activists to exploit popular discontent during a war and/or economic dislocation. Other election campaigns conducted by Communists garnered eyebrow raising numbers. Communist Penny Shaw, who ran for a seat on the Harris County Commission, received 45 percent of the vote. CPUSA member Sema Hernandez ran an underfunded US Senate primary in Texas and still managed to secure 250,000 votes.[17] Polls pointed indirectly to the possibility that Marxist-Leninist and socialist organizations could gain additional support in the event of a major crisis (economic downturn and/or war). Why? Because there is massive disillusionment with capitalism and our failing (by First World standards) system of government. In a poll dated from 2019, seventy percent of millennials said they are “somewhat or extremely likely” to vote for a socialist candidate. The survey also found that half of millennials—ages 22 to 38—and 51 percent of Generation Z, or those age 16 to 22, had a somewhat or very unfavorable view of capitalism.[18] It was no small wonder that Communist Party USA (CPUSA) National Chairman John Bachtell admitted that the appeal of Marxism was “really growing, as a political force. A lot of people are joining the party in the recent period. Many of them come from small towns all across the country. We hope they become more active.”[19]
More insight was provided by national security expert Dr. Joseph D. Douglass Jr., who recounted information on Cold War era Soviet invasion and occupation plans intended for the US. These plans became known to Douglass (and presumably to the US government) by defecting Czechoslovak General Jan Sejna, who was intimately familiar with Warsaw Pact (and Soviet) war planning. Sejna met with the topmost Soviet leaders, along with Party and military leaders from many of Moscow’s allies and satellite states. Douglass wrote that after a Soviet attack on the US, Moscow would seek to “…clothe (occupation) mechanisms in indigenous or nationalistic trappings.” Based on Sejna’s information, Douglass wrote that “A ‘Central Committee for Salvation and Restoration’ and counterpart Salvation and Restoration committees in newly established regions would be set up. The first action would be to seize radio and television networks and announce changes in national and state governments, that is, to the new Salvation and Restoration committees. A third party would be created out of the CPUSA, left-wing Senators, and prominent figures from finance, industry, and science. Recruitment here is directed toward those people who are regarded as naive and those whom the Soviets refer to as ‘chicken opportunists.’ Middle class radicals, blacks, and Hispanics would be recruited and organized into a national militia. ‘Salvation courts’ would be established and their immediate task would be to execute members of right-wing groups.”[20] Even today, some Communists and other radical personalities enunciated their desire to repress their opponents. I would bet at least some of these radical organizations would contribute personnel to staff special courts involved in the purging of political opponents. Grayzone founder and journalist Max Blumenthal wrote, “‘The Grayzone does not favor re-education centers for anyone except smarmy warmongering neoconservative fraudsters.’”[21] In the event the Party of Socialism and Liberation (PSL) took over the US, they would outlaw freedom of speech for those who preached xenophobia, bigotry, or the restoration of capitalism.[22] Until exposure by conservative publications like WorldNetDaily, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) advertised music which celebrated the violent execution of the bourgeoisie. One such gem of a song titled “Red Revolution” contained these lyrics: “When the Red Revolution brings its solution along, along, there’ll be no more lootin’ when we start shootin’ that Wall Street throng.” Another terrifying song titled “Are You Sleeping, Bourgeoisie?” contained these intimidating lyrics: “Are you sleeping? Are you sleeping? Bourgeoisie, Bourgeoisie. And when the revolution comes, we’ll kill you all with knives and guns, Bourgeoisie, Bourgeoisie.”[23] One DSA member carried the sign which stated, “Let’s Guillotine the Bourgeoisie Tonight Comrades.”[24] According to Brandon Darby, a former activist with the leftist group Common Ground Collective, Occupy Wall Street intended to impose a dictatorship over the American people in the event they took power. Occupy believed that thirty percent of the American people would need to be “re-educated.”[25] In 2021, many prominent DSA leaders celebrated the 1940 murder of Leon Trotsky by Soviet agents. They included a Jacobin magazine contributor, rank and file DSA members and organizers, members of the DSA Labor Committee, Organizing Committee, National Political Committee, National Coordinating Committee of the Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA), Steering Committee, Immigration Rights Group, and organizational co-chairs. Unfortunately, many of the DSA members and officials who celebrated the murder of Trotsky were active members of the Democratic Party and the AFL-CIO.[26] DSA was also suspicious of dissent or any form of meaningful opposition to our geopolitical adversaries. For example, the DSA suppressed an article in their publication Democratic Left. This article expressed concern that the US was in competition with “mercantilist” China. The Seattle and Boston DSA, along with the Communist Caucus of the East Bay DSA, furiously opposed the article and had it suppressed. The pro-China forces within DSA claimed that the article pitted “the U.S. working class against the Chinese working class.” They also petitioned the DSA to suppress any pieces which promoted “national chauvinist or anti-Chinese perspectives in the future.”[27] Authoritarian impulses within the socialist and communist movements in the US are alive and well. The urge to purge and repress could conceivably be deployed by occupation forces to censor surviving media and sentence political opponents to execution or imprisonment.
In the real world, who would possibly cooperate? My educated speculation would point to economic, academic, and political elites professing extreme obeisance to China or Russia (or their allies). Others would collaborate on the account of their profitable business relationships with Beijing or Moscow (or their allies). The latter points were confirmed by former Cuban intelligence (DI) officer Jose Cohen, who claimed that his service recruited their American agents on the account of greed or a shared “communist or leftist ideology.”[28] Cohen’s analysis and experience could apply to the motivations of collaborators with a potential occupation force in the US. I would also suspect that Americans would collaborate from the standpoint of a Marxist-Leninist ideology at odds with the political and economic system in the US. Alienation from the current socio-political order in the US along with a desire to attain unlimited power (and the sadism and corruption that accompanies it) could also serve as motivating factors for collaboration.
Are there any political groups and public figures who expressed a desire for the downfall of the US and the subsequent domination by China and Russia? Unfortunately, the answer is yes (which sickens me). Some on the far right hated the US as a culturally degenerate country where progressive cultural values exist as part of the mainstream. Nick Fuentes of America First stated, “The day that China owns this country, I pray on it we want that to happen it will be better for us.”[29] In a show with hardline communist Haz al-Din, Fuentes stated: “For me to succeed, the US regime necessarily must fall, and the ascendency of China and Russia hastens that.”[30] Fuentes also wrote, “I know it’s not exactly politically correct but I support tsar Putin’s right to denazify the illegitimate state of Ukraine! I want China to take back Taiwan, I want Russia to take back Ukraine, if for no other reason than it’s time for America to be humiliated.”[31] In July 2022, racist anti-Jewish rightwing radio broadcaster Hal Turner raged: “The USA has become a woke cesspool of 3rd world slums, meth/heroin junkies, rabid feminists, and neutered femboys. Am I really supposed to care if 90% of it is annihilated in a nuclear fire? But, people say, but ‘muh freedums…’mercia, f*ck yeah! Well, that place has been dead a long time. Maybe it’s time its rotting carcass be put on a funeral pyre.”[32]
Others believed that the United States was the biggest roadblock to a peaceful world and believed that Russia/China should defeat the American military-industrial complex. Economist (and former Reagan Treasury Department official) Paul Craig Roberts wrote in 2018, “If Russia and China do not take steps to defeat the US before Washington forces nuclear war on the world, we are all doomed.”[33] Some believed that the Sino-Russian bloc represented the wave of the future, and that the US should therefore accommodate itself to it. Owen Shroyer (who is part of the Alex Jones network) stated on June 21, 2022 that “Are you really surprised there is a new alliance of world power that is shifting and leaving America behind because we are a joke, a clown show? Russia, China, Saudi Arabia and other countries are forming a new alliance of power…They intend on replacing the Western alliance of power that is now clownville. The world is ready to advance, they don’t want to do mass depopulation, to turn it into a world corporate slave-system…The world is ready to move on and move into the next level of human progress. In order to do that, they have to leave the West behind…The West is collapsing…The globalist plan is to end humanity. The rest of the plan isn’t going along with it. So when you see Putin saying he is building a New World Order…Putin has decided we are going to stand up and say enough of the corruption coming from the West, enough of the negative Western influence on the planet…and China says ‘I kind of like what Russia is doing’ and Saudi Arabia says ‘these Russians seem to be more honorable, better, smarter, more honest people than the people I deal with in America’ and India ‘I like the way Russia is going plus with Russia and China there as our allies we could control the entire means of production on the face of the Earth’ and Brazil, Mexico, C (Central) and South American countries…will look at this new partnership…that actually believes in human prosperity…which way do you think they will go.”[34]
Others were ideological Marxist-Leninists who were squarely opposed the United States and its political class. They were also in fundamental disagreement with our economic system. In the event of war with China, Communist YouTube commentator Haz Al-Din wrote, “…We would take the revolutionary defeatist position, hoping sincerely for the victory of China and the final destruction of American imperialism. China would undoubtedly aid in the destruction of our own heavily despised ruling class and decadent professional managerial elite, and we would thank them for it. In the meantime, we make it our patriotic duty to struggle against every act of American aggression against China and every possibility of a war against China.”[35] In December 2022, Caleb Maupin of the Center for Political Innovation (CPI) stated: “… we have a common enemy and a common destiny and we welcome the defeat of US imperialism around the world because we are struggling against the same enemy and that this will ultimately help set the stage for our victory over US imperialism here in the homeland…this is called revolutionary defeatism.”[36] Joti Brar, the Vice Chairperson of the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist) stated at a CPI conference: “…make no bones about it comrades, if those countries (like Russia and China) are drawn into war, we better hope they are victorious, we better had…this is a message our workers need to understand. We need Russia and China to win not the USA and Britain, right?” The assembled CPI members (all American citizens) applauded the defeat of Britain and the US in a war with China and Russia.[37] The Revolutionary Abolitionist Movement (RAM) called for the destruction of “the state, police, military, corporations, and all those who run the American plantation.” RAM stated its goal succinctly: “Liberation begins where America dies.”[38] The Workers World Party (WWP) noted in its newspaper (May 2000): “China is not the enemy…The enemy is right here in the United States…”[39] In a meeting, the Chairman of New Black Panther Party Malik Zulu Shabazz, National of Islam (NOI) Minister Louis Farrakhan and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad discussed “ways to build an alliance, secure raw materials and overthrow America.”[40]
Others sapped our will to bolster our defenses against Russian and Chinese hegemony. In a talk given to the Movement for a People’s Party Convention (August 30, 2020), Medea Benjamin of Code Pink claimed “We have to shout out loud and clear: China and Russia are not our enemies…”[41] In 2011, Glenn Greenwald wrote “…the only thing that can truly strengthen America’s national security is a weakening of America.”[42] Tobita Chow, the Director of Justice is Global (which is a project affiliated with People’s Action) stated: “The antiwar movement must prepare for potential escalation with China, and the rest of the progressive movement infrastructure must get ready to back them up, in a way that we weren’t when we were on the brink of war with Iran less than three months ago. And we need to pick and escalate our own fights that demonstrate to the whole country where the real battle lines lie, fights that clarify that the greatest threat to us is not any other country, but our own unaccountable elites within the Trump administration and the corporations that seek to profit off of this crisis.”[43] Major Danny Sjursen (who is photographed with a Communist clenched fist salute) claimed in the leftwing publication Truthdig, “…neither Russia or China have the capacity nor the intent for global conquest.”[44] Demonstrators organized by the Center for Political Innovation (CPI) held banners which read “Russia and China are NOT our Enemies!”[45] In the event of an actual attack, it is likely that portions of Code Pink, CPI, Justice is Global, etc. would cooperate with the invaders, claiming that they were provoked by warmongering neoconservatives and defense contractors. Others would be mugged by reality, finally realizing that Russia and China represented a militarism that is at least equal (or worse) than the American government.
Another potential marker for gauging the possibility of collaboration are the ties between domestic radical organizations with foreign embassies, consulates, and intelligence officers. There is a long history of this kind of activity. Yevgeny Bazhanov, the former Soviet consul in San Francisco, recalled: “Every month or so, a crazed American anarchist would approach me and ask the consulate to provide dynamite or Kalashnikov machine guns to fight the ‘imperialist pigs’ in Washington and cleanse U.S. society of the ‘capitalist filth.’”[46] Maintaining close ties with the diplomatic missions of geopolitical adversaries represents prewar collaboration. The rationale for these ties was best enunciated by Eritha Akile Cainion, who was a leader of the St. Petersburg (FL) chapter of the African People’s Socialist Party. Cainion stated: “We can have relationships with whoever want to, whoever we see fit to make this revolution possible. We will have a relationship with them. We unite with any force that is willing to unite in our anti-colonial struggle. We will not refuse to engage with others around the world who want to see this (colonial) system go. We will not refuse that.”[47] Both the African People’s Socialist Party Uhuru Movement and the Black Hammer Party[48] maintained ties with the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).[49] Brandon Darby, a former activist with the leftist group Common Ground Collective, recalled that they met with Venezuelan officials who queried him about the possibility of an African American rebellion and guerrilla warfare against the US government. They also met with Cuban intelligence officers and members of Global Exchange (another radical leftwing group) while in Venezuela.[50] Emiliana Sparaco, a former leader of the Young Communist League, attended the Russian government funded and organized celebration of the Bolshevik Revolution in October 2017.[51] The Workers World Party (WWP) and the December 12th Movement maintained ties with the North Korean, Cuban, Venezuelan, and Belarussian UN Missions.[52] Both the Workers World Party (WWP) and the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) maintained ties with Syria and Putin’s Russia.[53] After 1991, the Communist Party of the USA (CPUSA) maintained close relations with Syria, the terrorists of the Democratic Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), North Korea,[54] the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF),[55] Vietnam (which hinted in 1996 of providing material support to the CPUSA),[56] and China.[57] The CPUSA breakaway group, the Committees of Correspondence (COC) maintained ties with the Salvadoran Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN), the African National Congress (ANC), communist parties in the Russian Federation,[58] Cuba, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Venezuela, and Vietnam.[59] The Left Forum hosted Venezuelan diplomats from their Washington DC embassy, UN Mission in New York City, and their Chicago consulate in 2016[60], 2010[61], and 2018.[62] The head of the Cuban UN Mission participated in the Left Forum of 2013[63], while the Left Forum of 2010 hosted the head of the Bolivian UN Mission (while the country was governed by the MAS of Evo Morales).[64] Code Pink also participated in the New Horizon conference in Iran, which was cited by the Justice Department as being used by Tehran’s intelligence officers to recruit foreigners (including Americans) to work for the Islamist dictatorship. One such American attendee of the conference, former USAF intelligence officer Monica Witt was recruited by the Iranians while attending this conference in 2012 and 2013. Delegations from Code Pink sat side by side with diplomats and other officials from Cuba, Venezuela, and Bolivia, National Bolshevik ideologues from Russia, extremists in the pay of Chinese and Russian intelligence services, anti-Ukrainian fascists, and assorted anti-Semites and Holocaust deniers.[65] Lee Stranahan (formerly of Breibart News), who was a commentator on the Russian state-owned station Sputnik, admitted that he “doesn’t have any qualms” with being “on the Russian payroll.”[66]
Some Americans extended military assistance to the Russians. American mercenary John McIntyre defected to the Russians after infiltrating the Ukrainian armed forces. While serving in Kiev’s forces, McIntyre passed various papers, files, intelligence, and maps to the Russian military. McIntyre admitted: “I am a communist, an anti-fascist. I decided to collect as much useful information as possible and run across the front line.”[67] Former US Army soldier Russell Bentley collaborated with the Donetsk People’s Republic by making videos in support of the Russians and their allies. He also served in the Vostok battalion in support of the Donetsk People’s Republic. While visiting Cuba, Bentley developed hard core communist beliefs.[68] Ana Belen Montes, who was recruited by Cuban intelligence (DI) to spy in the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), worked for Havana on the account of her extreme leftwing political beliefs.[69] Kendall Myers (who was employed in the State Department) admitted that he worked for the Cubans based on admiration for Fidel Castro’s revolution.[70] Other communists continued to penetrate the American military. One well-known case involved Second Lt. Spenser Rapone, who posted a picture on Twitter where the slogan “Communism will win” was written on his officer’s cap. He also opened his military tunic and revealed a Che Guevara t-shirt.[71] Some potential military collaborators were angry citizens alienated from our society. A former member of the CPI Joey Schantz (aka the Yankee Tankie) stated on Twitter/X (March 23, 2024): “Today we are all publicly learning that you don’t fuck with Russians. And my message to the American government, if you ever dare to draft me to go off to war the fight these people, I promise you one of two things will happen. A: I allow you to draft me for me to be sent to Russia so I can wave a white flag and go to the Russian side B: I burn my draft card and serve in prison for draft dodging One way or another, I will never fight Russia unless they invade my land (which literally will never happen). You think I’m fighting dudes that are gonna capture me and force eat my ear? For a government that refuses to even build clean water infrastructure for my own people? You are fucking joking.”[72] Aldrich Ames justified his espionage activities on behalf of the Soviets (and then the Russian SVR) in a public statement dated from April 29, 1994: “First, I had come to dissent from the decades-long shift to the extreme right in our political spectrum and from our national security and foreign policies. Second, I had come to believe that the espionage business, as carried out by the CIA and a few other American agencies, was a self-serving sham, carried out by careerist bureaucrats who have managed to deceive several generations of American policymakers and the public about both the necessity and the value of their work.”[73] If some Americans provided military or intelligence assistance to our geopolitical adversaries, then it is more than likely that a portion of these ideologues, alienated Americans, and criminals would cooperate in a possible invasion and occupation of the United States.
Some political personalities here in the US would aid Russia in breaking up the US into separate republics. Why would Russia seek to fracture the United States in the aftermath of an invasion? Quite simply, dismembering the US would accelerate the decline of national morale in a potentially defeated America. Louis Marinelli, the leader of separatist Yes California maintained very close ties with the Russians (especially through their Anti-Globalization Movement, which was tied with the extreme nationalist Rodina movement in Russia and the Putin regime). Working with Russia to break California away from the US, Marinelli stated that he “could no longer live under an American flag.”[74] This was in keeping with Russia’s desire to break up the United States. Russian strategists such as Igor Panarin, the dean at the Foreign Ministry’s school for future diplomats and a regular fixture on Russian state TV, predicted that the US would fracture and collapse into competing regional based countries in 2010. He believed that Russia and China would eclipse the US as the dominant global power bloc.[75] Panarin observed that the Occupy Wall Street protests was evidence of an “ever-deepening split with America’s ruling elite.” Panarin believed that the combination of financial, economic, and social problems will eventually bring down the United States as the world’s sole superpower.[76] Long Kaifeng, a retired Chinese PLA military officer and strategist, argued that the world is in the midst of what he termed “The Fourth World War” where he predicted the disintegration of the US.[77] Russian state television propagandists Vladimir Solovyov and Margarita Simonyan suggested that Russia could invade Alaska, California, or Hawaii. Russia’s deputy head shaman Artur Tsybikov predicted that “The United States of America and their people, of course, it’s a pity. America may soon be divided into several parts, and several states will declare sovereignty. Most likely, Alaska and California will return to the Russian Federation.”[78] The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev declared, “What can stop America’s manic obsession to incite conflicts all over the planet? Looks like, nothing short of a civil war on the US territory.”[79] One Russian plaque in Crimea read, “We returned Crimea to you. They will return Alaska to us.”[80]
Starting in the 1980s, the American public became demoralized and understandably angry at the massive corruption of our plutocratic government and our declining quality of life and standard of living resulting from a form of capitalism which places short term shareholder profit over everything else. In the eyes of a demoralized citizen, the America Dream has become unattainable. Exploited by Marxist academics and activists, it should be no surprise that a portion of these demoralized Americans would be open to giving another system of government a chance to succeed. Polls indicated that a growing number of Americans are sick and tired of our paralyzed government and desire a strong leader. In a survey of 8,600 Americans, the online research panel Ipsos KnowledgePanel revealed that about forty percent believed that having a strong leader was more important than preserving democracy. Half expected a civil war in the US, with seven percent (or eighteen million people) stating that they would be willing to kill someone if such a conflict occurred.[81] The 2024 World Happiness Report listed the US as the 23rd happiest country in the world (which fell from being one of the top 20 happiest countries). Significantly, the US ranked in the top 10 for the happiest country for people 60 years and older while ranking 63 for citizens aged 30 or younger. The rankings were based on social support, GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perception of corruption.[82] According to a poll from NORC at the University of Chicago, nearly a quarter of Americans find the American Dream “out of reach,” rising from 18% in 2022 to 24%.[83] In 2021, only 11% of Americans say they are satisfied with the course of our nation. Sixty six percent of American adults were polled as being “very dissatisfied.”[84] This was illustrated in many interviews and conversations with poor, working, and middle-class Americans. Examples of this abound in the public record. An Alabama mother of two adult children Jessica McCabe uploaded a video which went viral, where she lamented: “It’s not 1988 anymore. We have to, as parents, realize that the economy has changed. I understand inflation, prices always go up. But I think that lately the wages are not keeping up with how big the inflation has gotten. And we have to listen to our children. I am so tired of feeling helpless as a parent. Yes, my kids are grown adults. My oldest is 28. My youngest is 25. And I thought by teaching them what I learned, which is, you work hard, you get a good job, you’re going to get the things in life that you need. Alright, worked for me. Why wouldn’t it work for them? Because it doesn’t. Because the world has f-----g changed. Yes, I understand. Struggling is a part of life. We all struggled. But there’s a difference between struggling and drowning.” McCabe elaborated on the skyrocketing costs of housing: “The reason why I made the video is because I was so frustrated. I went out yet again with my son to go trying to find an apartment he can afford. Half the places I felt like should have been condemned, that he could afford. And the other half, they’re running four times your rent. They want you to show that you can have like four times that. So, it was getting frustrated.”[85] Why are these polls, studies, and anecdotes significant? The answer again is simple: in time of war, a demoralized public may not be motivated to fight for our country’s independence, especially if Russia and China are promising a better future. Add on the fact that the Federal government has not made any serious preparations to shelter the public in the event of a nuclear attack by the Russians and/or Chinese. You can bet that the invading Russian and Chinese forces would hammer that theme to a war weary and decimated American population. Desiring order and fulfillment of basic needs, Americans could realistically surrender their patriotism in an effort for self-preservation. Could one blame this portion of the American national community? Not really, since the elitist leaning Federal government are possessed by the spirit of what radio commentator Chuck Harder called “The I’ve Got Mine Club.” As another commentator Gerald Celente noted, “When people have nothing left to lose, and they’ve lost everything, they lose it.”[86] This discontent could be exploited by domestic extremists who would serve the invading forces. Radicalism thrives when a government is unresponsive, isolated, and ultimately in its death throes. Russia during the years 1916 and 1917 illustrate my previous point. As Lenin remarked, “Give us a handful of revolutionaries and we will overturn Russia.”[87] Lenin and 200,000 Bolsheviks took over the geographically large nation of Russia during a time of political, economic, and social chaos. (Russia at that time had a population of 91 million people.)[88] This situation could be replicated in the US. A small group of extremists could take power in a collapsing United States. Our geopolitical adversaries are very cognizant of this potentiality. Russian state media eagerly awaited the coming civil war in the US. According to the state-owned Novosti news service, “The next presidential election could lead to a definitive split in American society and a new civil war.” A headline on another Russian media source Gazeta.ru claimed, “In Harvard they’re predicting war within the United States.”[89] China also provided a platform for Americans demoralized with our political/economic system. They serve as effective transmission belts for propaganda specifically crafted to further demoralize both American and global public opinion. Former US Marine Corps soldier and analyst Brian Berletic noted in a guest editorial written in the Chinese Communist Party publication Global Times: “The US military is considered the most trusted institution in America by the American people. It is more trusted than the media, big American businesses, the criminal justice system, and even the elected representatives that make up the US Congress. Despite this fact, trust in the US military itself is in decline, stemming from a variety of reasons and reflecting America’s overall decline as a global superpower.” He noted that this trust declined due to protracted wars in the Middle East, poor care given to veterans (homelessness, for example), poor handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan, and a lack of eligible recruits. Berletic concluded: “These leaders with poor performances have sent Americans to fight and die overseas in pursuit of unsustainable global dominance, which has had negative repercussions on America’s economy, education system, and society at home. The decline in these areas produces the conditions in which crime, disease and ignorance thrive, depriving the military and the rest of American society of the qualified human resources necessary for survival and growth. Unless the fundamental problems of US foreign and domestic policy are solved, the decline will persist, affecting not only the military but also eroding the trust the American people have in it.”[90] This scenario is a distinct possibility which our national security apparatus needs to take heed of.
There are those in the economic elite who are rightfully concerned about the rising radicalism. A secret report authored by Citibank admitted that the US devolved into what it termed a “plutonomy” where “economic growth is powered by and largely consumed by the wealthy few.” The report expressed concern that this situation could provoke a militant anti-capitalism amongst our citizens. In a section titled “What Could Go Wrong,” the authors of this secret report argued that “Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.”[91] Robert H. Dugger, a financial industry lobbyist and a partner in the global hedge fund firm Tudor Investment Corporation, warned “Anyone who’s in this community knows people who are worried that America is heading toward something like the Russian Revolution.”[92] Investor Howard Marks, the co-chairman of Oaktree Capital stated, “There is a rising tide of anti-capitalism and we should be concerned about that…”[93] The short-sighted greed of the post-1980s financialized form of capitalism contains the seeds of its own self-destruction. As former hedge fund trader Sam Polk recalled, he (and presumably his former colleagues) was a “giant fireball of greed.”[94] After Polk supported renewed banking regulations to stabilize financial capitalism, his uber-wealthy boss shot Polk a “withering look,” and stated, “I don’t have the brain capacity to think about the system as a whole.”[95] This is where Karl Marx is correct, when he wrote: “What the bourgeoisie therefore produces, above all, are its own grave-diggers. Its fall and the victory of the proletariat are equally inevitable.”[96] A capitalism largely devoid of any patriotism or fealty to the community contains the seeds of its own self-destruction. Communist organizations would then gain influence on the ashes of a collapsed capitalism.
Meanwhile, the aggregate military and industrial power of the United States declined since the 1980s. Reaganomics coupled with Russia’s “elimination of the enemy image” led to the hollowing out of our economy, spiritual fiber, and national defense. In a speech, radical leftist academic and psychoanalyst Joel Kovel observed at a conference devoted to anticommunism at Harvard University (1988): “the US is weakening and has less capacity to enforce a megalomaniacal ideology like anticommunism.”[97] (It should be noted that foreign diplomats and communist party activists from Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, South Africa, the US, Grenada, and Guyana all participated in this conference). An article dated from 2008 in Challenge (the publication of the hardline Maoist-Communist Progressive Labor Party or PLP) noted: “Chinese capitalists are growing stronger while U.S. capitalists are starting to lose their grip. Ultimately, imperialism leads to war.”[98] In his book America Against America (1991), top Chinese Communist Party theorist Wang Huning wrote: “The American system, which is generally based on individualism, hedonism and democracy, is clearly losing out to a system of collectivism, self-forgetfulness and authoritarianism.”[99] Sadly, the communists and their sympathizers have a point, since the inherent short-sightedness, greed, and lack of empathy inherent in neoliberalism (market fundamentalism) have divided this country into a collection of self-interested individuals as opposed to a unified whole. Neoliberal policies permitting free trade, outsourcing of production, and leveraged buyouts (private equity) gutted our industrial base and rotted our communities. In turn, a significant number of Americans became disillusioned with capitalism. This became ever so apparent when the Great Recession struck in late 2008 and 2009. A Chinese document asserted that the financial crisis of 2008 was a “heavy blow to the capitalist world…It exploded the myth advocated by some Western theorists that this is the end of history and capitalism will last forever…This will undoubtedly help the world socialist movement, currently at a low ebb, to march forward…”[100] One Chinese publication urged that the Party should “courageously shoulder our necessary international responsibilities and obligations.”[101] This could be taken to mean invasion of the US or support for communist parties and so-called liberation movements. Perhaps in the wake of an economic collapse and a subsequent depression, Chinese forces would invade America under the guise of “restoring order,” “securing nuclear weapons from hostile militarists,” or “aiding progressive revolutionary forces.” In October 2008, Hugo Chavez commented, “This crash of capitalism and of neoliberalism will be worse than that of 1929. The world will never be the same after this crisis. A new world has to emerge, and it’s a multipolar world. We are decoupling from the wagon of death.”[102] The 20th International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP) viewed the “crisis of capitalism” as leading to “conflicts within the capitalist society itself and between the proletariat and bourgeoisie.”[103] Fortunately, this scenario could be prevented. How? The best method to counter this potential challenge to the system is through the implementation of thorough social reforms within the framework of free enterprise. President Kennedy was correct when he warned back in 1962 “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.”[104]
In addition to political/economic discontent, communist and socialist organizations profited from the old Soviet program (late 1980s) of eliminating the image of the enemy. The popular perception that the United States won the Cold War persists to this day. America then fell asleep, thinking that communism was dead, and that the “End of History” had arrived. As I have noted on my show The Politically Homeless Podcast and in my books, Russia simply arranged a strategic retreat and rebuilt its military and industrial power. China continued its campaign to use capitalism to launch a massive armament buildup, which is ultimately aimed at the United States. And America viewed communist parties as historical curiosities and anachronisms. Now that the Cold War supposedly ended, various communist parties here in the US are exploiting this historical amnesia. Communist leaders here in the United States viewed Gorbachev’s program of eliminating the image of the enemy as an opportunity. Judith LeBlanc, the CPUSA National Organizational Secretary wrote in an article in the August 1989 issue of Political Affairs “On the one hand, it is a new ‘fact of ideological life’ that anti-communism continues to decline. At the same time, we need to be able to deal with the new ideological questions in more innovative ways. By finding more ways, using every opportunity to refute anti-Communist lies publicly, we build a wider base for our mass struggle contributions and for Party building. And this, in turn, reduces the strength of the fear factor. If we do not have a more public approach, we abandon the image-making of Communists to the class enemy. There is no better way to fight anti-communist stereotypes than through our presence and our participation in struggle.”[105] Fast forward to the present and communist/socialist organizers report the same favorable conditions for growth. Former CPUSA Chairman Sam Webb stated that he does not get “harsh” reactions when he tells people he is a communist. According to Webb, younger people think his ideology is “cool.”[106] PSL Presidential candidate Gloria La Riva plausibly stated that the “fog of anti-communism is lifting” from the “negativity and misunderstanding” of the past to “acceptance.”[107] Dustin Guastella, who is a writer for Jacobin and a DSA member, pointed out that millennials do not fear socialism and communism, since they did not grow up during the height of the Cold War: “They don’t remember all this propaganda about the Soviet Union and communism and how evil it was.”[108] Tony Pecinovsky, a CPUSA District Organizer for Kansas, Missouri and Tennessee, claimed that “fading memories of the Cold War and the CPUSA’s pragmatic, grass-roots activism have lessened the stigma around communism-but prejudice endures on the ground.”[109] In the event of a major crisis here in the US, it is conceivable that communist and socialist organizations could capitalize on existing mass discontent and a younger generation ignorant of the brutality of Marxism-Leninism. In turn, those factors could serve as catalysts for increasing the membership rolls of these organizations.
Now, where do the economic elites fit in a Red Dawn scenario? There is no doubt that as Marxist-Leninists, the Chinese (and the Russians-whose leadership is still infused with Marxist-Leninist political culture), and their American collaborators would execute or imprison large numbers of wealthy individuals and businesspeople. Quite simply, they represent the class enemy. However, as pragmatists, the invaders and their domestic allies would harness the managerial skills of friendly elements within big business to jumpstart the economic infrastructure not destroyed in the war. Former Soviet Novosti journalist and KGB collaborator Yuri Bezmenov opined back in the 1980s that “capitalists or wealthy businessmen” could be dispatched to “Alaska, probably to manage an industry of slaves.”[110] Similar to the so-called peace organizations, many financial-global capitalists pave the way for a potential invasion of the US by Russia and China. How? By providing the technology needed for military modernization and the entrée of China/Russia into the political system (via a capitalist class jealously guarding profitable trade). Both Communist leaders and defectors pointed this out. Former Black Panther terrorist Anthony Bryant wrote in his tell-all book Hijack: “The capitalists had diddled and played with the Beastling too long; now it had grown and become a voracious, uncontrollable monster. I was living in the guts of the Beast.”[111] It is important to note that there are major divisions within the capitalist class on the question of trade with Russia and China. This was a fact that CPUSA leader John Bachtell admitted in 2018, “…U.S. ruling circles are divided on foreign policy and trade” with China.[112] Businesses rooted in the home market and our communities are often deeply skeptical and resistant to this trade. Why? From my experience, many within that subsection of the American business community are patriots and victims of unfair trade practices conducted by China, Russia, Vietnam, and other dictatorships. Multinational corporations and Wall Street investors (save for a precious few exceptions) often fall all over themselves to profit from Russian and Chinese militarism and extreme statism. Which CEOs, CFOs, and other superwealthy Americans would collaborate? It is unclear, since none have provided any statements for the public record. However, we could narrow the categories of potential wealthy collaborators with the Chinese and Russian occupiers to the following groups: those who are sympathetic to the Chinese and Russian political systems; those who hate independent unions and hail China for its tight control over its workforce; those who denied or downplayed the military threat of China; those who knowingly disobey American sanctions laws; those who provide equipment used to suppress dissidents and pro-freedom demonstrations; and those who support the foreign policy goals of Russia and China through lobbying. Who are the names of such individuals? You can use your imagination.
Now let’s ask another question. Would any politicians or activists from the two major political parties potentially collaborate? The answer is more than likely yes. This would be the result of infiltration by Russia, China, and our local communist parties (especially the CPUSA). This is not as far-fetched as many would like to think. In a speech before workers for the Daily World, Gus Hall admitted that secret communists wore the “masks” of the Democratic Party, “mass organizations,” and “even the Republican Party.”[113] Even in today’s supposedly post-Cold War climate, the CPUSA freely admits the penetration of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. In 2010, the CPUSA’s Young Communist League (YCL) noted, “Currently, the conditions rarely if ever allow us to run open Communists for office. When members do run for office, it is within the auspices of the Democratic Party.”[114] During the last two decades of the Cold War, there were Congressmen who clearly would have cooperated with the USSR in the event of an invasion and occupation of the US. This is in line with Major General Jan Sejna’s revelation that “left-wing Senators” would form part of a new collaborationist coalition government after the war. A few Democratic Congressmen justified or blatantly ignored some of the most egregious Soviet actions. Congressmen John Conyers (D-MI) and George Crockett (D-MI) abstained on a resolution passed by the House of Representatives which condemned the Soviet destruction of the KAL 007 airliner in 1983. (A colleague of Crockett and Conyers, Congressmen Larry McDonald was killed in the Soviet attack on KAL 007.) In 1985, Congressmen Crockett and Gus Savage (D-IL) voted against a resolution which condemned the murder of US Military Liaison Mission (USMLM) Officer Major Arthur Nicholson, Jr. in East Germany. Even worse, Crockett reportedly defended the Soviet Union for killing Major Nicholson.[115] Another former Democratic Congressman Ron Dellums (D-CA) was basically an ally of the Communists throughout the last 20 years of the Cold War. He could have served in a collaborationist coalition government had the Soviets invaded and occupied the US. Former Black Panther Eldridge Cleaver observed in 1984 that Dellums “doesn’t even favor BB guns in the hands of the American military…I know him personally, and the man believes the world would be better off if America would lose power and the Communists would take over. His approach has been to oppose every, not just some, every-appropriations bill for the Pentagon. By opposing military budgets, Dellums aids the communists by destabilizing and frustrating American foreign policy.”[116] Who among the current crop of politicians and activists within the Democratic and Republican (and possibly other parties like the Greens) parties would cooperate with the Russians and Chinese in the event of an invasion and subsequent occupation? Potential markers could include: prior or current cooperation with communist parties or their fronts; habitual meetings with the diplomatic emissaries of hostile powers like Venezuela, China, and Cuba; consistent downplaying or apologia for the Russian and Chinese governments; voting records which are always favorable to the interests of Moscow and Beijing; those who may have been blackmailed by hostile intelligence services; and those who may have profited from business dealings with China or Russia.
Russian and Chinese nationals who infiltrated the US as undercover spies and military personnel could realistically assist invading forces by committing acts of sabotage. According to GRU Colonel Stanislav Lunev, Spetsnaz/Special Destinations Group teams had already infiltrated the United States and targeted key military and political leaders. These Spetsnaz forces trained on American territory. Their knowledge of foreign languages and cultures allowed them to pose effectively as Germans or Eastern Europeans. They planted suitcase nuclear bombs, chemical weapons, and explosives disguised as bricks, logs, rocks, etc. in well-hidden caches in the Shenandoah and Hudson River Valleys, amongst other locations.[117] “Retired” Russian servicemen affiliated with the FSB and GRU trained Russian American youth at locations all over the US (including at McClellan Air Force Base). These clubs are linked to the GRU and FSB.[118] Members of the Federal Youth Agency of Russia (Rosmolodyozh) organized youth cells and patriotic camps in the US. The ideological training at these camps combined Russian Orthodox Christianity and Soviet Communism.[119] These Russian-Americans could clearly buttress invading Russian forces as collaborationist propaganda cadres and paramilitary units. In recent years, there has been an alarming increase in the number of Chinese nationals crossing our southern border with Mexico. At least a portion of these Chinese could be undercover military or intelligence agents ready to be activated during a war with Beijing. Several well-placed politicians and security officials have expressed concerns. National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd noted that military age Chinese nationals crossing the US-Mexico border were “at best, they’re here for a better life. At worst, they’re here to be part of the Chinese government to infiltrate our own country.” In January 2024, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents encountered 5,717 single Chinese. The number of military age Chinese nationals totaled 64,979 since January 2023. Gordon Chang, a senior fellow at the Gatestone Institute claimed that “Some migrants are almost certainly members of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA).” Congressman Mark Green (R-TN) who is the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, stated that “We have no idea who these people are, and it’s very likely, using Russia’s template of sending military personnel into Ukraine, China is doing the same into the United States.”[120] Rebecca Grant, a national security analyst at IRIS Independent Research, stated: “Some of those people want to come here and have a better way of life, but I think some of those Chinese (nationals) quite possibly are here to spy and report back at a minimum.” Grant stated that she was “99% certain that at least a little bit of this is (the) Chinese military infiltrating for reasons harmful to our national security. Is it one person, is it a hundred, is it a thousand—we don’t know, but the fact that we have to ask this question is outrageous.”[121] According to CBP data, apprehensions at our southern border with Mexico totaled more than 6,500 in the six months since October 2022.[122] According to the CBP, more than 24,000 Chinese nationals crossed the US-Mexico border from January to September 2023. Congressman Green charged, “China is likely using the chaotic conditions on the southern border to insert military personnel into the US…among the large number of Chinese migrants who have rushed the border since President Biden took office are people with known ties to the PLA--the People’s Liberation Army.” The Chinese travel to Mexico via Ecuador and Colombia.[123] Even worse is the recent discovery of Chinese staffed biological labs within the US. The Chinese ran a biological agents lab at a dilapidated warehouse in Reedley California. It was staffed by Chinese nationals equipped with PPE. They were experimenting with malaria, dengue fever, and COVID-19. It was owned by Universal Meditech, which was based in Fresno and surrounded by security cameras made by the Chinese surveillance technology firm Hikvision. Universal Meditech received medical supplies from a Chinese corporation Ai De, which was owned by members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).[124] How many of these labs exist in the US? No one knows for sure. However, deadly viruses and bacteria could be grown at these facilities and then released into the general population with deadly effects all over the United States.
Another likelihood in the preparatory phase of the Red Dawn scenario is the encirclement of the US, especially from Latin America and the Caribbean. China would neutralize the US politically in Asia (possibly taking Taiwan through a blockade or outright subversion) and Russia could ultimately collapse the NATO alliance. Much of this would depend on the level of isolationist sentiment within the US coupled with a deep recession or depression in the American economy. Such circumstances would force an American retreat from its overseas commitments. Latin American socialist and communist leaders were often very anti-American and stated so very publicly. General Alberto Muller Rojas was asked by Hugo Chavez to reformulate Venezuelan military doctrine in 2005 which declared the United States as the “main enemy.”[125] In July 2006, Belarus and Venezuela concluded a “strategic partnership” against the US. Chavez noted that Belarus and Venezuela shared a “common enemy.”[126]
The Russians and Chinese threaten the US from its Latin American allies and hail the steady advance of socialist and communist movements in that region. In June 2017, Russian military commentator Colonel (Reserves) Viktor Baranetz said that Russia should deploy Caliber cruise missiles to Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela in order to defend their democracy and sovereignty and to point them “at America’s fat ass.”[127] Russian Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov gleefully commented in 2006, “Latin America is turning Red.”[128] Other Latin American Marxists openly spoke about forging an anti-American alliance in league with Russia and China. In an address to the Venezuelan National Assembly (June 2023), President Nicolas Maduro stated: “I talked about this on the phone with (Brazilian President Luis Inacio) Lula (da Silva), personally discussed it with (Colombian) President Gustavo Petro, with Argentine President Alberto Fernandez. A new time is coming, a special time to unite the efforts and ways of Latin America and the Caribbean in order to get closer to creating a powerful bloc of political forces, economic power that will talk to the world.” Maduro stated further that this “power bloc” would become a “new pole of power” in an alliance with Russia and China: “This community would share common goals, which our elder brother (the President of the People’s Republic of China) speaks about Xi Jinping: humanity united by a common destiny. Or (building) that multipolar and multicentric world that our elder brother President (of Russia) Vladimir Putin is talking about…For this world to come, we need a unified and developed Latin American and Caribbean bloc.”[129] Chinese dictator Hu Jintao assured Fidel Castro in 2003 that “as socialist countries led by the Communist parties, China and Cuba share the same ideals and faith.”[130]
Defectors from anti-US governments in Latin America confirmed that the purpose of such alliances was to surround (and presumably collapse) the United States. In a 2003 interview, defecting Venezuelan Air Force Major Juan Diaz Castillo noted to J.R. Nyquist that: “…Hugo Chavez is working to form a bloc of countries to fight the United States. For Hugo Chavez the United States is the enemy. And he is convinced that by forming a bloc of countries he can attack the United States in various ways. One way would be an economic attack. And on top of this he is not only looking for an alliance with a bloc of countries but also an alliance with terrorist groups because this will give him a direct way to attack the United States. He sees in the terrorists a force with a defined intention to attack the United States…”[131] The tenor of Castillo’s revelations was confirmed by documents issued by Latin American Marxist governments and movements. On July 18, 2007, a six-phase plan was laid out in a speech by Venezuelan General Gustavo Reyes Rangel Briceno where he called for (among other things) the fomenting of an anti-US Latin American nationalism; training cadres to promote this worldview; and stoking regional conflicts where these anti-US forces would establish “liberated zones.”[132] In October 2010, the Managua-based newspaper El Nuevo Diario published an undated document titled “Revolutionary Brotherhood.” It laid out the plan to convert various Central and South American countries into governments run under the principle of 21st Century Socialism. The strategy as outlined in the document called for class conflicts between the rich and poor and international conflicts between the US and Latin America; centralization of power in the hands of the president; the creation of citizen power organizations which would abolish existing institutions of civil society; coopting state agencies under the control of the governing leftwing parties; politicizing the armed forces to defend the “Bolivarian revolution;” infiltration and division of the opposition; domination of the media; an alliance with private businesses; and the ultimate seizure of power all over Latin America.[133] While in office (during his first term), Brazil’s Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva developed alliances with Russia and China to “block the imperialist’s geographical advance.” He stated that the ties with Russia and China were “visceral and based on common interests” because “nobody wants the empire to survive.”[134] While visiting Iran, Bolivian Marxist leader Evo Morales declared that there was a need to “strengthen the resistance front formed by independent and freedom-seeking nations to fight against imperialism and global hegemony.”[135] During a visit to Cuba in December 2005, Morales noted, “I am sure of the fact that Fidel and Chavez are commanders of the forces of freedom in America, to liberate America and the world.”[136] There was evidence that Russia and China planned to threaten the US, using its socialist Latin American allies as springboards. A plan proposed in a May 2015 article by two well-known Russian military thinkers: Aleksandr Perendzhiyev from the Association of Independent Military Political Experts, and Colonel General Leonid Ivashov, a member of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems, advocated the creation of combined Russian/Chinese units in Nicaragua and the stationing of Russian troops in Venezuela and Brazil (under the control of the Workers Party). They also proposed the stationing of a Russian task force off the coast of the US (based in Cuba). This would all be accompanied by a “major diplomatic and information offensive.”[137] This could be precursor steps for an eventual attack on the US mainland.
Piecing together the available evidence allowed me to conclude that the Russians and Chinese do indeed have the intentions to dominate the US. When that would occur is subject to worldwide political changes and the correlation of forces. In summary, the domination and potential invasion/occupation of the United Sates could come about through:
1) Neutralization of Europe and eviction of American influence from most of Asia. Taiwan will either be invaded or conquered through economic blackmail or a PLA naval blockade.
2) Revolutions will occur throughout Latin America, with the backing of Russia, China, and their existing allies. The US will be encircled from the south.
3) Chinese and Russian sleeper cells embedded in the US will conduct sabotage, poison the water, and release diseases to sicken the American population, National Guard, and police forces. A state of terror will ensue, and further demoralization will overtake the US population.
4) Russia will launch a selected nuclear strike that will cripple key command and control points, strategic weapons bases, and industrial plants critical for military production. China may launch a bacteriological warfare attack to wipe out the American population. Chinese PLA forces would move in and ultimately occupy the US.
5) If the Russians and Chinese avoid a scorched earth attack, their forces would install a government consisting of a motley crew of various politicians, businesspeople, and activists from socialist/communist parties. The latter would form a militia of toughs, criminals, idealists, and ideologues to enforce the occupation.
6) Various secessionist movements would fracture states such as California into separate governments. Parts of the American Southwest may be handed over to Mexico.
7) Alaska would be handed back to Russia.
8) The US may be dissolved into three or four separate countries under Russian/Chinese control.
9) Political opponents would be interned in reeducation camps where they would be ordered to perform slave labor (such as mineral extraction, agricultural work, and remediation of bombed out areas). Upwards of several million Americans would be executed. Purges and defections would occur within leftwing circles. (Think of the opposition from the Social Revolutionaries, Greens (anarchists), and Mensheviks to the Bolsheviks). Resistance from the remaining National Guard, police, and regular military units would carry on for years. They would be joined by armed and unarmed American civilians.
10) Some units of the National Guard, armed forces, police, and intelligence services (FBI, CIA, NSA, Department of Homeland Security) might collaborate with the occupation government. Some may be communist sympathizers embedded in the armed services and intelligence organizations while others would be opportunists, psychos, and individuals looking to survive.
11) Religious institutions would be coopted and selectively purged. LGBTQ+ Americans would be violently purged. The Chinese would slowly inculcate Americans with a militant atheism.
12) Unions would be purged of anticommunists and merged into one organization to serve the new state. Work-life balance, labor conditions, and living standards would fall dramatically.
Entertaining the possibility of such a Red Dawn scenario, especially in the decades following the Cold War, is unthinkable to most Americans. In fact, it would be safe to assert that most Americans reading this essay would think this is all the paranoid musings of a Cold Warrior, anticommunist crackpot. While such sentiments are (understandably) to be clearly expected, it is imperative that our armed forces, population, and government be prepared for such a possibility. The evidence cited are from declassified documents, defectors, open-source materials, and Russian/Chinese spokespeople and media sources. Our primary defense program should be centered around preventing and blunting an attack. This would involve the mobilization of a mass movement that would deploy a positive civic nationalism and healthy populism to implement a new defense, economic, and political policy that would reindustrialize the US, improve national morale, rework free enterprise away from Reaganomics (neoliberalism), monitor and expose extremists, and embark on a program to reach military superiority over the Russians and Chinese. Our defense program would also involve an ambitious civil defense that would protect our people (not just the political elite) and an anti-missile defense program. What are your thoughts? Is it nuts for me to think that the Russians and Chinese plan a Red Dawn scenario for the US?
